I've been feeling guilty lately over not taking the kids to the library. We've been missing it. Our library here in South Carolina cannot hold a candle to our beloved library in Jonesboro, but we still need to be going.
So, today was the day. I gave everyone a heads up in the morning -- "Make your list BEFORE we go!"
The readers are allowed to check out 7 books: a history, a science, a biography, a hobby/craft/, a literature, and a few free choices. The little boys are allowed to check out 3 books. One has to be nonfiction, and one has to be fiction, the third is a free choice.
Once Zach and Miriam were asleep, the oldest seven and I headed to town. After we paid an embarrassing amount of money in fees (seriously. we could have had a steak dinner. won't be happening again.), we checked out books to our hearts delight.
Judah's favorite has been a nursery rhyme book by Maurice Sendak. Benjamin checked out a few of Yolen's dinosaur books. Wesley's loving his Dale Earnhardt Jr book. TJ, of course, checked out mostly books on animals ... but he also chose Henry Huggins as his literature (which they listen and love on audio performed by Neil Patrick Harris. Good stuff.). Connor chose a huge, beautiful copy of The Hobbit, and a super cool biography about George Washington. Korinne has been spouting off random facts about Audrey Hepburn, and Kylie's been displaying a big Beatles book on the top of their book shelf in their room (much like you would a coffee table book). I chose another edition of Wynken, Blynken, and Nod, a picture book on Beatrix Potter, Rylant's Bunny Bungalow, some Charlotte Zolotow, Sarah Stewart ... ...
Happy Library Tripping, Happy Reading!
